Apple accused of stealing ideas from developers again | MacNN News
I had to post about this because it's a little stupid to say the least. The following comment was apparently made by Arlo Rose (the creator of a mac shareware program called
Konfabulator - of which I personally am a registered user, and have been since the first day of it's official release):
Developer Arlo Rose says that Apple is stealing ideas from its developers...
...Konfabulator, the first utility to allow users skinable easy to create desk accessory-like objects written in JavaScript, has served as the template for Apple's new feature Dashboard.
What is so extreamly amuzing about this has to do with the following page about a little product for Windows called DesktopX...
Konfabulator for Windows:
Konfabulator is a great program. I use it on my Macintosh. I'm a registered user of it even. And Konfabulator would deserve a lot of credit for this innovation if it weren't for the inconvenient fact that DesktopX preceded it by THREE YEARS.
Along with this is included a nice little thumbnail, looking so increadibly like Konfabulator, even I would think it was a copy if I didn't know that this product is three years older than Konfabulator:
If you notice in this picture there is an indicator for the homeland alert level.
I personally made a widget for Konfabulator called
Homeland Status which does the same thing (with a slightly different appearence). While this may not be significant in any respect, I just felt it interesting to point out...
So at any rate the evedence here is a little overwelming... Arlo is accusing Apple of copying Konfabulator to make Dashboard, while Arlo himself was copying DesktopX to make Konfabulator...
If you are going to accuse someone of stealing your idea, make sure it was your idea to begin with...
