Kerry's Nuclear Power Problem
Kerry's web site: Nuclear power can play an essential role in providing affordable energy while reducing the risk of climate change...
John Kerry: When I'm president of the United States, I'll tell you about Yucca Mountain: Not on my watch.
What this basically translates to is: I [John Kerry] support nuclear power, but I don't support giving nuclear power plants an ability to get rid of their waste, which means all nuclear power plants will need to close down over the next 10 years...
Yucca mountain was used as the Nevada Test Site for the testing of nuclear weapons. It's federal property in the middle of nowhere... It was being converted to store all the excess nuclear waste coming out of nuclear power plants... This is due to the fact that these plants are quickly running out of on-site storage space for the nuclear waste they end up with...
If Kerry prevents Yucca Mountain from being turned into a safe massive underground storage facility, these plants will end up having to close, since they won't have any room left to store their nuclear waste... There's no alternate here, either we need to come up with some type of facility to store this waste, or the nuclear energy that Kerry's own website says he supports will be completely shut down...
