Sorry about the snacks
I can't believe this...
On January 15th there was a civil rights march in Columbus. Police were on duty for 8 or more hours during this march, so were given snacks...
Apparently one of the foods available to the police officers were bananas... And this, apparently, offended someone...
You see, she explained that them eating a banana was somehow a reference to calling blacks apes...
Apparently the fact that bananas are a healthy snack, and one of the easiest fruits to eat (not to mention the most consumed fruit in the entire country) had nothing to do with why they were eating them in this person's head...
So the mayor of Columbus, after receiving a complaint from this person, wrote an official apology to this person, and anybody else who may have been offended, for some of the officers choice of eating a banana...
As I said in our telephone conversation, I am sorry you found Columbus police officers eating bananas on the street when you arrived in Columbus for the protest. Let me assure you there was no intent to offend. The officers needed some nutrition after standing long hours on the street and they particularly needed the potassium available in bananas and some other fruits.
There was no thought of insulting or offending anyone and perhaps this was thoughtless on our part. In any case, let me offer my sincere apology for anything our officers may have done that gave offense to you or anyone else.
I really don't know what to say here, this is beyond anything resembling intelligence... I'm incapable of wrapping my head around this... I always here crazy things about political correctness reaching new lows, and usually think
it can't get any worse than this. Then something like this happens which then correct my view...
The fact that this person is apparently trying to make it so I can't eat a banana in public. I would start laughing if this person is sent to the hospital with a potassium deficiency... It does happen, I experienced it one time myself... Though I wonder if it was unreasonable for the doctor to tell me to eat more bananas...
