This article has a nice little quote:
We're saying it's not OK to recruit on high school campuses, it's not OK to recruit on university campuses. That's nice, but how about this: I believe it's not OK for Students Against War to spread their propoganda on university campuses... You probably think my view is wrong but as far as you're concerned, you've already decided your own correct. So as long as you hold your own view, you are in no position to tell me mine is wrong... Doing so would mean you are being Hypocritical, which by default invalidates any claim you try to make. But it's your choice -- you can either validate my statement by saying nothing, or invalidate your own by saying something... The comment link is below...
good point--if recruiting on campus is hypocritical, then so are students rallying against war. I think the first statement is hypocritical if the person also says that the university is a place where people are free to organize for awareness, and share their views. My view? Both recruiting AND organizing against war are OK. Saying they are NOT OK is OK as long as it does not belittle the other side in any way.
Correct, but as long as they are taking such a hard view, my post is going to do the same thing... My only goal with this post is to stur up controversy in hopes a member of the organization will read it. And the gist of the post is simply a hard line logical approch. Technically speaking its federal law that allows the recruting on campuses. So the demonstrators physically chasing the recurters away would be the illegal act... If they really want to stop the recurters, work to change the law, don't physically threaten thoes who fufil the law... What truely bothers me the most, that I didn't include in my post is it should be the students choice if they want to enlist or not. The protestors, by chasing away the recruters, are essentailly stating that the students shouldn't be capable of making up their own minds... But what it boils down to is if they are going to take the line that was quoted in the article, my own quote in response is not out of line... The easiest way to demonstrate a view is hipocritical is to respond with an equally hipocritical view in return.
