Glucon Glucose Monitoring Watch
I was browsing Gizmodo today and ran across this! Being a diabetic since I was 7, my mom used to tell me one day someone would make a watch that would tell blood sugar without the use of thoes little needles, strips and that device to read them... Looks like someone is finally making a viable product...
Apple to rename Rendezvous technology "Bonjour"
I remember first hearing about this in relation to a company telling someone who made a "Rendezvous" plugin for a little application called Proteus, adding thoes capabilities to the program... He was told to drop the name "Rendezvous" by another company, as they said it violated their copyright. If I recall their copyright was for "Tibco Rendezvous" and the person commented he was not using that full term, but simply "Rendezvous" -- which Apple had in fact granded a patent for. Seemed like a logical arguement to me, but he ended up dropping the name, and the company indicated they would in fact file suit against Apple... Well, they did, and the suit has been settled out of court... Apple is now changing the name to "Bonjour" which sounds a little cleche to me... They were considering the name "OpenTalk" but thought it sounded to "tehcie"... I actually prefer the name OpenTalk, as it sounds more like a proper noun than "Bonjour" does... I was also thinking "OpenNet" sounded kinda cool too... But that's my opinion I guess... Being there are TONS of products out there today which utilize the term Rendezvous, it's gona take some time for that term to disappear... There are countless network switches and things like wireless hard drives that all utilize the technology... Oh well, guess I'll have to get used to using "Bonjour"... Ahem -- "Does that wireless access point have Bonjour?"
isnoop.net gmail invite spooler
Welp, I just sent 20 invites to this site. I will probably send more soon. I guess this means I don't need to post anymore here, as they have in excess of 200,000 invites currently avalible... So if you need an invite, go to the link above!!!
Google Maps
I was just playing around, and found it pretty neat. I had to use FireFox though, as it currently does NOT work with Apple's Safari, my primary web browser. Fortuantly, as being a web developer, I have many of the common browsers avalible for the Mac on my iBook... It has live dragging, which is great, as you don't have to click some arrow to the side and wait for it to load the next image... It's 1000 times faster than other services I have use IMHO... Give it a try, if you have a compatible browser that is...
Sorry about the snacks
I can't believe this... On January 15th there was a civil rights march in Columbus. Police were on duty for 8 or more hours during this march, so were given snacks... Apparently one of the foods available to the police officers were bananas... And this, apparently, offended someone... You see, she explained that them eating a banana was somehow a reference to calling blacks apes... Apparently the fact that bananas are a healthy snack, and one of the easiest fruits to eat (not to mention the most consumed fruit in the entire country) had nothing to do with why they were eating them in this person's head... So the mayor of Columbus, after receiving a complaint from this person, wrote an official apology to this person, and anybody else who may have been offended, for some of the officers choice of eating a banana... As I said in our telephone conversation, I am sorry you found Columbus police officers eating bananas on the street when you arrived in Columbus for the protest. Let me assure you there was no intent to offend. The officers needed some nutrition after standing long hours on the street and they particularly needed the potassium available in bananas and some other fruits. I really don't know what to say here, this is beyond anything resembling intelligence... I'm incapable of wrapping my head around this... I always here crazy things about political correctness reaching new lows, and usually think it can't get any worse than this. Then something like this happens which then correct my view... The fact that this person is apparently trying to make it so I can't eat a banana in public. I would start laughing if this person is sent to the hospital with a potassium deficiency... It does happen, I experienced it one time myself... Though I wonder if it was unreasonable for the doctor to tell me to eat more bananas...
Garbage.com
I was just going though trying to rate my unrated Garbage songs in my iTunes library, and decided to take a peek at their website... Welp, I was very excited to learn, they are releasing a new album on April 11th 2005!!! A couple months away but o-so-close!!! The albums title is Bleed Like Me...
Grrr! Un-Christianlike Christians and Other Random Grrrs
I actually find this amusing, the author is being hypocritical in his listing of what he call hypocrisy... Grrr! to all the hypocritical 'Christians' whose knee-jerk reaction to my opinion about a piece of film called 'The Passion of the Christ' a few weeks ago caused them to blow a gasket and presume to know what's in my heart and soul. So, lemme get this strait. This guy is criticizing Christians because they criticized him??? He's saying Christians have not right to criticize him but in turn he's asking "Who the hell are you to judge others?" This statement is in fact a judgment call of those he says are judging him. For those a little weary on this part, the "who the hell are you" part points to analyzing -- aka judging -- the people to whom he's referring. Also the statement "Classic Self-Righteons" followed by the "that's what you are" is a blatant criticism and name call... So there are only 2 possibilities here if you think about it: 1) This guy is a Christian who is in turn doing in general what he is accusing others of doing specifically to him. This is hypocrisy at it's clearest... 2) This guy is not a Christian. He feels justified in criticizing them because they've done it to him. However, he also feels they should not have had the right to do so in the first place. So basically he feels it's OK for him to criticize them, but they can't criticize him. This is hypocrisy in that you can never expect others, regardless of their religious beliefs, to live by some other code than you're willing to live by. When you do things you feel others don't have the right to, regardless of circumstance, you too are encapsulating hypocrisy... You really shouldn't judge people and their religion using religion as the basis to justify why they shouldn't be judging you... -- Also, to clarify, because I'm sure someone will misinterpret... I'm not attempting to judge him for judging, I'm simply posting this to point out his hypocritical manner of doing so... As I really dislike hypocrisy...
Apple announces two-for-one stock split
Woo hoo! Apple this morning announced that its Board of Directors has approved a two-for-one split of the company's common stock and a proportional increase in the number of Apple common shares authorized from 900 million to 1.8 billion. Each shareholder of record at the close of business on February 18 will receive one additional share for every outstanding share held on the record date, and trading will begin on a split-adjusted basis on February 28. So basically, as of Febuary 28th, the one share of Apple stock that I own will become two shares! I knew it would happen relatively soon, as the last time Apple's stock hit 80 they split it...
I'm transfering some unrelated comments to this blog, as they don't fit in with the topic of the blog they were posted under. This is a series of comments that I'm copy-pasting here...

AWStats 6.3
For thoes of you using AWStats, make sure you're updated to the most current version, 6.3... A security hole was found in earlier versions, allowing people to take over control of a site... It happened to the phpbb website, and people are mistakenly blaming the secirity hole with their BBS script... This is a misconception, as according to their website, nobody has been able to conclusivly blame the bbs software and reproduce the hole... AWStats page, on the other hand, has stated with certanty that this security hole exists in it, and says any pre 6.3 users should update...
Cookie klatch lands girls in court
This is beyond ridiculous... Two teenage girls decided one summer's evening to skip a dance where there might be cursing and drinking to stay home and bake cookies for their neighbors. Basically this woman apparently went psycho because someone knocked on her door at 10:30 PM... The two girls left cookies, as a nice gesture... This is an amazingly ridiculous statement by the insane woman herself, replying to the letter that was given to her & her family in apology: Young wouldn't sign the agreement. She said the families' apologies rang false and weren't delivered in person. The matter went to court. So basically she is saying that these girls only goal for delivering fresh home baked cookies was to cause terror. I'm no expert in this type of thing, but if I wanted to terrorize someone, I WOULD NOT LEAVE COOKIES ON THEIR PORCH!!! I hope this woman feels superior now, because if she doesn't the whole farce was a waste to everyone... I'm going to laugh if a story is posted next week that kids in the neighborhood start knocking on her door in the middle of the night and run off as a prank on a regular basis... Basically this is what she is opening herself up to... [UPDATE] - 02/10/05 Victims of 'Cookie Monsters' Get Hate Mail, Phone Threats Welp, it looks like it didn't take long for national attention to catch up with them... As I remotely predicted, they left themselves open for this... Though I didn't quite expect this extreme an outcome... Wanita's husband, Herb, stated: We have got horrendous phone calls, tons of hate mail, threats to our life... But I have to say I'm not supprised... Though the most interesting snipet in this article is: The parents of one of the teens asked for a restraining order against Herb Young, accusing him of making harassing phone calls. He admitted calling the Ostergaards once after hearing the teens were talking to a newspaper and at one point said "the gloves were off," which apparently was taken as a threat. I would classify that as a threat myself... Also consider for a second that this is what he admitted to saying... He very well may have said more that he won't or hasn't admitted to... [UPDATE] - 02/17/05 'Cookie Monster' Case Gets Nastier There's one interesting quote from Mrs. Young in this: All this over cookies... Our home is like a funeral parlor. They've robbed us of our laughter. My spirit, my soul, is damaged. I hate to tell you this but try taking a little responsibility for your own actions for once. There are two sides to every coin, and ignoring the opposite side doesn't make it go away... The only thing "they've" done is try to leave cookies on your porch as a sign of good will. If you're so paranoid that someone can't even do something as simple as that without causing you a nervous break down, perhaps you should build a 50 foot cement wall around your house... Or perhaps you would be better off committed to a hospital... This, of coarse doesn't even take into account the fact that your husband made harassing phone calls following this whole thing... So stop trying to sound like your the sole victim and an angel in this whole situation...
It seems like I've had a lot of little things going on the last week...
I just felt like giving a run down. 1) Me and my girlfr... er, feance purchased new cell phones a couple weeks ago. We got $100 rebates with each phone & I found out she mailed both rebates in one evelope. We were supposed to use 2 seperate envelopes. She called and they told her they woudln't process both, and "Too bad..." Then when the person checked the computer, she found both are being processed, so we got lucky there... 2) Our Magic Bullet food processor died a couple weeks ago, so we called and they are sending us a replacement, no questions asked. Interestingly, they aren't even requiring us to return the broken one... They told us to toss it... 3) I got a new aquarium over the weekend. It's a 2.5 gallon tank (relatively small for an aquarium), and in it I have my Betta. I think he likes the new home, but I still have to find more decorations for it... 4) After selling the house, my mom gave me some money to pay off one of my bills. I went in Tuesday & paid it all off... One less bill to worry about... 5) I got my laptop back from AppleCare over the weekend. I was relieved when I found they left the hard drive & the data on it intacked. Last time they replaced the drive, even though it didn't need to be... Welp, there's more things, but I don't have time. I'm getting off work & have to go heat up food for my Bible Study's potluck tonight...

Torgo - The Torgo Blog: Gays & Lesbians OK, Christians NOT OK!
I received the following comment, so am taking the time & effort to post the response as a full blog entry. To explain the situation, there was a Christmas parade where a gay and lesbian float was allowed, but a Christian float WAS NOT! The anonymous comment posted was as follows: Quit your whining. You and you whole damn religion whine if you dont get your way or someone else gets what you want. If you wanted a stupid float, why didnt you go ask to put one in the parade? Why didnt you protest the parade? You didnt do either and now you just sit on your site and whine. Besides gay and lesbians are what people care and want to hear about. Not you. "It makes me wonder how much time will pass before any admited Christians will be forced to go to the middle of a stadium, where lions will be released..." Does it make you feel high and mighty quoting things from the bible? Do you think your vague reference is going to make people care? If your going to stand up for you religion, then do it in real life and stop being an idiot. My reply is as follows: Boy, I have to say the above comment is the most blatantly hypocritical and narrow minded comment I've had posted to my blog to date... I may as well analyze this step by step... |
