PLEASE DO NOT POST A COMMENT TO THIS POST, I WANT TO SEE IF CNN DOES ANYTHING HERE
CNN Guerrillas in the Midst: A Viral Marketing Campaign Exposed This is a very interesting article about CNN doing what appears to be comments designed to lower search ratings on Google for posts criticizing CNN... I'm asking nobody comment on this post, for the main reason that I want to see if some non-human visitor in fact does post a comment about Headline News, Prime Time, or Nancy Grace... ;)
Well, I'm STILL working on it, and yes, I am making real progress... As of now I created a very nice layout. It has a LOT of supprise little features that work suprisingly well... I've tested all the features in IE, FireFox and Safari, and they all work exactly as they should. I would guess they work in other browsers too... I've visted a lot of MK pages in my day, but I've not yet seen one that does what mine currently is... Granted, it's all interface, but to me that's the most imporant part...
I've created my SQL structre, and know how to access SQL with Perl now... It seems it will take FOREVER to put all the data into the database, but we shall see how it goes... Maybe with some luck I'll sit down for a day and get everything coppied... I'm shooting for 1 through T (MK, MK2, MK3, UMK3, MKTrilogy) before the release. Then I will continue work to get 4 - Deception done... I'm still debating on doing GameBoy Advanced versions & stuff... Again, we shall see... I'm still being dilligent though, so freat not... I'm backing everything up every once in a while, as the last time I worked on my major MK revision I lost my HD... I keep thinking the more I get done the more likely I'm going to loose everything again... Stupid I know, but things seem to be going WAY to good on my end for this to finish as well as it's gone so far... At any rate, I can tell you with 100% certanty it will not be finsihed before the next seven days. Likely more, but I thought developing a SQL database would take a month, yet I'm pretty much done with it less than 24 hours after I started tackling the issue... Again, I just need to populate it... Then of corse I have to write a new perl script to interface with it... I also need to develop a new template to display the info, as my current one sucks hard...
If you are unaware, currently available for various platforms is the origional arcade versions of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Mortal Kombat 3...
Mortal Kombat 1 is available with special edition versions of Mortal Kombast Deception on a bonus disk. It's also available on Mortal Kombat TV Games which doesn't require a game system... I personally have been trying to find a PS2 bonus disk on eBay, but havn't found it. I tried to buy the special edition of Mortal Kombast Deception, but when I went to GameStop they didn't have any of the PS2 versions... They said they didn't get their shipment (they only had XBox)... They told me I could wait until the next day, however I wasn't about to... Mortal Kombat 2 & Mortal Kombat 3 are now available on Midway Arcade Treasures 2... I have this one and it plays great... I've though (as well as others have I'm sure) that if Midway released a single Mortal Kombat Classics disk, containing Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and maybe even Mortal Kombat 4 & Mortal Kombat Trilogy, the game would sell like hotcakes... I'd even buy it even though I already have Midway Arcade Treasures 2 & even if I had the Deception bonus disk... At any rate, my main reason for making this an "official post" is mainly due to the fact that, with the re-release of these games, I have motivation and am in the process of completely re-doing the Mortal Kombat portion of this site! What I have so far is a major improvement, but I do still have a LONG way to go!!! I've actually impressed myself with what I've come up with allready... Hopefully the new stuff won't end up with the same fate that my last revamp of my MK page did... I had a good portion done (which I had started after the release of Deadly Alliance), then my computer's logic board died. After getting the computer back, I had a clean drive without any backup of all I had been doing... Though perhaps this was a good thing, as what I have made already is 1000 times better than then my last attempts... I'm currently working on layout, creating the actual databases is likely to take some time... I'm hoping to use a SQL database, but weather or not I do will remain to be seen... I mainly need to find out how difficult interfacing SQL with Perl is... I've done zero research on this so I don't have any idea what it might intale...
Local Politician Unknowingly Funky, Freaky
Some guy who's name happens to be Rick James is running for city council. Not so surprisingly, because of Dave Chappelle the "Vote Rick James" signs have been being stolen... As a result the James campaign team is asking Comedy Central for a donation to compensate them for the stolen signs... 'We would appreciate a small campaign donation for more signs, as we are working-class people and financing this campaign out of our own pockets,' wrote Diane James to the cable channel. 'Each time a sign is stolen, it costs us $4.75!' While that does seem unfortunate, it's wrong for them to seemingly "blame" Comedy Central based solely on the fact that they're happening to do skits about a famous singer by the same name... It's not as if Comedy Central played ANY role in naming either the Singer or the guy running for city council... For the record I regularly get emails from people talking to me about "Bobby Thompson", a baseball player who hit a grand slam to win the world series (or something like that), many many years ago... I know nothing about him, it just so happens I share his name. Would it be right for me to expect compensation from someone related to him or whatever every time someone visits my site and uses bandwidth that I pay for looking for info on him??? Or the time I spend reading emails people send me??? This would be beyond ridiculous, just as Rick James' request... Of coarse besides all this, the one thing this guy is getting is free publicity. How many people running for city council -- from some random city in some random state -- are mentioned in national news??? I think the guy would be much better off embracing the publicity rather than attacking Comedy Central...
Bake Sale Battles Continue: FIRE Gains Victory at NEIU, Turns Sights on Grand Valley State University
Well, NEIU has reversed their decision to block the College Republican's affirmative action bake sale. I blogged about this a few days ago... Someone there must have realized the ironic hypocrisy the school was enforcing by blocking it...
Well, I was very excited to see both free POP3 & Forwarding in GMail, as this now allows me to fully utilize my GMail email address...
It occured to me, however, that with 2GB of storage (and counting), AND IMAP access, it would make using GMail the absolute solution... You see, using both POP email and web based email doesn't work real well for many reasons, as the two store everything seperately... So say you download all you email though POP, then read half of it, but leave the other half in your POP client unread. When you log into GMail later on, you will either end up with all the email being marked unread in the inbox, or all of it being marked read & archived. When you are talking about, say, a months worth of email, you could have to re-sort out hundreds of messages when you get back to the web interface... Plus if you, say, sort out your email manually into folders (which I do) in your POP Client, then go to web mail, NO sorting has been done!!! When you talk about hundreds, or maybe even thousands of email messages, sorting everything twice is far from a reasonable experience... IMAP however is much different, as you can setup your client to basically organize everything ON the email server. You basically would (or could at least) leave ALL your email on GMail's server, organize and access it FROM GMail... So when you do log into web mail, all your email is sorted marked read/unread, flagged, etc. exactly as it was done in your client! This would be ideal, as it would give you all the access of your POP Client (assuming it's IMAP compatible), and the full ability to go into the web mail interface and get exactly the same organization... As of now i'm using the forwarding feature, as this is the easiest way to get my GMail in the same place as the rest of my mail. This, however, does NOT give me the ability to access all my email on any other machine but my main system... I am glad that they have this ability, but if they added IMAP, I WOULD use GMail as my primary email server...
Northeastern Illinois University Bans Affirmative Action Bake Sale, Threatens Protestors with Punishment
At NEIU, a conservative group was going to hold an "Affirmative Action" bake sale. This is where minorities are charged less for the same items than Whites and Asians, to represent a protest of Affirmative Action... The group was threatened by the university... One small problem: The NEIU Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance held a "Pay Equity Bake Sale" in which men were charged more than women for the same items, to protest the payment gap between the sexes... NEIU Replied to FIRE by sending a response which loosely translates to: "We don't want to compare these issues, so we are ignoring these facts because we believe we have no obligation to acknowledge the obvious [that we are very hippocritical]." In other words, as too many universities do, they support a liberal (feminist) groups events but ban an identical type event held by a conservative group...
Just a little interesting note...
Activists, INCLUDING many IN Mexico say illegal immigrants should be granted education in the US. However, in Mexico you are REQUIRED to have a birth certificate to attend school. THIS policy actually keeps many poor Mexican citizens from being able to attend school. This is mainly because it would require these citizens to walk for hours or days to get to a facility to get a copy of a birth certificate, then pay the equivalent of a weeks food money in processing fees... The policy also makes it IMPOSSIBLE for any immigrants illegally in Mexico to attend school... Mexico states this policy is reasonable. If in fact it is "reasonable", why do they state WE IN THE UNITED STATES have an OBLIGATION to give their citizens an education here??? It's a little hypocritical for Mexico to state the US should have a MUCH weaker policy on who it allows in the education system then they themselves do...
FOXNews.com - U.S. & World - Armed Civilians Converge Upon Mexican Border
Gimmie a break... They call themselves patriots, but critics call them everything from gun-toting rednecks to racists. First off, calling someone a "gun-toting redneck" isn't too far off from using a racial epithet against a minority. So, if you're going to accuse someone of being a racist, it makes you look really hypocritical when you use tactics like this... And frankly, to my knowledge "Illegal Alien" is not an actual race... Last time I filled out a census, there wasn't an "Illegal Alien" check box under the race question... And I can also guarantee you with 100% certainty there are a number of Hispanics taking part in this group as well. I always find it funny when people group people who are of a same race into the racist category. These people who lodge these claims of racism usually severely discriminate against those who are of the same race the so called racism is against. Of coarse the only reason for this is as long as it's so blindly obvious race is not the motivation, their argument looks exactly what it sounds like: A biased unfounded generalization with no real truth behind it... But no matter how obvious the truth really is, these small brained, blatantly biased, unintelligent blind sighted crack addicts will always have a forum with the media... And before you start emailing me stating you aren't one of the things listed here -- I don't believe everybody who is saying thoes enforcing the border are racist falls under these categories. But while you are mad at being called these things, this is exactly what you have done in the inverse... |
