    UTC - More Mortal Kombat!
Well, I'm STILL working on it, and yes, I am making real progress... As of now I created a very nice layout. It has a LOT of supprise little features that work suprisingly well... I've tested all the features in IE, FireFox and Safari, and they all work exactly as they should. I would guess they work in other browsers too... I've visted a lot of MK pages in my day, but I've not yet seen one that does what mine currently is... Granted, it's all interface, but to me that's the most imporant part...

I've created my SQL structre, and know how to access SQL with Perl now... It seems it will take FOREVER to put all the data into the database, but we shall see how it goes... Maybe with some luck I'll sit down for a day and get everything coppied...

I'm shooting for 1 through T (MK, MK2, MK3, UMK3, MKTrilogy) before the release. Then I will continue work to get 4 - Deception done... I'm still debating on doing GameBoy Advanced versions & stuff... Again, we shall see...

I'm still being dilligent though, so freat not... I'm backing everything up every once in a while, as the last time I worked on my major MK revision I lost my HD... I keep thinking the more I get done the more likely I'm going to loose everything again... Stupid I know, but things seem to be going WAY to good on my end for this to finish as well as it's gone so far... At any rate, I can tell you with 100% certanty it will not be finsihed before the next seven days. Likely more, but I thought developing a SQL database would take a month, yet I'm pretty much done with it less than 24 hours after I started tackling the issue... Again, I just need to populate it... Then of corse I have to write a new perl script to interface with it... I also need to develop a new template to display the info, as my current one sucks hard...

    UTC - Mortal Kombat!!!
If you are unaware, currently available for various platforms is the origional arcade versions of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Mortal Kombat 3...

Mortal Kombat 1 is available with special edition versions of Mortal Kombast Deception on a bonus disk. It's also available on Mortal Kombat TV Games which doesn't require a game system... I personally have been trying to find a PS2 bonus disk on eBay, but havn't found it. I tried to buy the special edition of Mortal Kombast Deception, but when I went to GameStop they didn't have any of the PS2 versions... They said they didn't get their shipment (they only had XBox)... They told me I could wait until the next day, however I wasn't about to...

Mortal Kombat 2 & Mortal Kombat 3 are now available on Midway Arcade Treasures 2... I have this one and it plays great...

I've though (as well as others have I'm sure) that if Midway released a single Mortal Kombat Classics disk, containing Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and maybe even Mortal Kombat 4 & Mortal Kombat Trilogy, the game would sell like hotcakes... I'd even buy it even though I already have Midway Arcade Treasures 2 & even if I had the Deception bonus disk...

At any rate, my main reason for making this an "official post" is mainly due to the fact that, with the re-release of these games, I have motivation and am in the process of completely re-doing the Mortal Kombat portion of this site! What I have so far is a major improvement, but I do still have a LONG way to go!!! I've actually impressed myself with what I've come up with allready...

Hopefully the new stuff won't end up with the same fate that my last revamp of my MK page did... I had a good portion done (which I had started after the release of Deadly Alliance), then my computer's logic board died. After getting the computer back, I had a clean drive without any backup of all I had been doing... Though perhaps this was a good thing, as what I have made already is 1000 times better than then my last attempts...

I'm currently working on layout, creating the actual databases is likely to take some time... I'm hoping to use a SQL database, but weather or not I do will remain to be seen... I mainly need to find out how difficult interfacing SQL with Perl is... I've done zero research on this so I don't have any idea what it might intale...

UTC - GMail Has POP3, But No IMAP?
Well, I was very excited to see both free POP3 & Forwarding in GMail, as this now allows me to fully utilize my GMail email address...

It occured to me, however, that with 2GB of storage (and counting), AND IMAP access, it would make using GMail the absolute solution... You see, using both POP email and web based email doesn't work real well for many reasons, as the two store everything seperately... So say you download all you email though POP, then read half of it, but leave the other half in your POP client unread. When you log into GMail later on, you will either end up with all the email being marked unread in the inbox, or all of it being marked read & archived. When you are talking about, say, a months worth of email, you could have to re-sort out hundreds of messages when you get back to the web interface... Plus if you, say, sort out your email manually into folders (which I do) in your POP Client, then go to web mail, NO sorting has been done!!! When you talk about hundreds, or maybe even thousands of email messages, sorting everything twice is far from a reasonable experience...

IMAP however is much different, as you can setup your client to basically organize everything ON the email server. You basically would (or could at least) leave ALL your email on GMail's server, organize and access it FROM GMail... So when you do log into web mail, all your email is sorted marked read/unread, flagged, etc. exactly as it was done in your client! This would be ideal, as it would give you all the access of your POP Client (assuming it's IMAP compatible), and the full ability to go into the web mail interface and get exactly the same organization...

As of now i'm using the forwarding feature, as this is the easiest way to get my GMail in the same place as the rest of my mail. This, however, does NOT give me the ability to access all my email on any other machine but my main system... I am glad that they have this ability, but if they added IMAP, I WOULD use GMail as my primary email server...
