This article points out a nice little quote from Al Gore in relation to the fact that there are blatant mis-truths in his movie:
...I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous (global warming) is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are, and how hopeful it is that we are going to solve this crisis. So I guess he is borrowing from Michael Moore: If the facts alone aren't enough, make stuff up... And as I have done before, I will again point out to any readers of my environmental related posts that I drive a hybrid and have done so since 2002...
Here's another one... This time a meter maid was arrested for ticketing a cop & refusing to void the ticket. The cop claimed he had illegally parked his own car because he was apparently on police buisness...
The meter maid is suing for false arrest...
I never thought I'd see the day that I would side with MoveOn.org on any issue... I'm still shuttering...
Apparently sites like this are trying to blindside some republicans in to believing Network Nutrality is bad. In fact, all network nutrality aims to do is to prevent the internet from becomming like commercial TV, where if you have a little website (like I do here), you may end up having to pay big bucks to ensure people can see your website. While this is an extreme, this result is entirely possible. I don't know if you've got a website or not, but I can tell you I could not afford to pay a fee to ensure you are able to read this... The ads on my site bring in around 1/10 of what it consts me to run this. If Network Nutrality is not maintained (key word here), I may loose all the work I put into my little corner here on the net... Essentially what Network Nutrality aims to do is to keep comapines like AT&T & Verizon from going: "Hey, you, with the website! You like people to see your site? Well I tell you what, if you want people to continue to see your site, you'll need to give me a little green, know what I'm sayin?" The truth is, it would be nice if the regulation was NOT necessary, but being the so called anti-regualtion sites are not taking steps to prevent private regulation of the internet, who do they expect me to side with??? Anyway, find out the truth here.
Do I believe "Global Warming" is occurring. Technically, yes.
Do I believe we can do anything to stop it? No... You see, I think it's highly unlikely that our SUV problems are so bad that they are not only warming the climate here on Earth, but they are also causing global warming on Mars. This site says this argument is invalid & explains it... It's ironic since there is no scientific evidence* to show that the increase in temperature on Earth is in fact abnormal. You see, this site explains scientifically that it is the sun causing global warming. What it boils down to is simple. I believe global warming is occurring but at the same time that it is a normal part of the Earth's cycle... Of course, for the "it's man made" crowed I still find it interesting that you can see some guy come on a podium or go on TV to talk about how man is causing global warming and how terrible it is, then they go get in their SUV & drive away... Apparently they believe man needs to fix it but at the same time their exempt. For the record I drive a hybrid, and have done so since 2002...
Comics and Editorial Cartoons: FoxTrot on Yahoo! News
For thoes of you who saw last Sunday's FoxTrot but don't know morse code, I spent a few minutes translating... The phrase tapped out is: "SOMEDAY I WILL RULE YOU ALL"
Mexico Works to Bar Non-Natives From Jobs
Yep, that same government demanding rights for it's citizens in our country doesn't even grant half of thoes rights to legalized non-native citizens in it's own country...
This story is just appalling. If you believe police are here to protect and serve, this story proves beyond any reasonable doubt that the police would rather make your life a living hell than taking a few seconds to answer "hey, how do I get to the freeway from here?"
Couple Arrested For Asking For Directions In summary, a couple leaves a baseball game in an area they've never been to before & get lost trying to find the freeway. They see a police vehicle, so they go over to it & say "Thank goodness, can you tell us how to get to the 95?" The cop says "you ran a stop sign!" Now, this is probably correct. When you are lost & looking for help, its easy to miss a sign. It's happened to all of us at one time or another. So the couple says "okay, I guess we did, write us a ticket. Now can you tell us how to get to the freeway?" The cop responded "NO!" Then tells them "you got here on your own, you can get back on your own." So the couple, still completely lost sees another police car. They drive over to it to ask that cop for help, but the first cop steps between their car & the other car saying "my partner isn't going to help you if I'm not." This situation has obviously gone way to far, and this cop obviously forgot who she works for & who pays her salary, not to mention what she does for a living. So, the couple, pretty much out of options at this point, calls their parents, who coincidentally are police officers as well (at this time I will give them the benefit of the doubt). They pulled over on the curb & turned on their emergency lights & made the call. A few minutes later they both end up in custody for trespassing. Eight hours later they're released without being charged (geese, who would have guessed)... This police officer should read what her car says at some point. It says To Protect & Serve, not To Purposely Be An Ass. I can only assume she got that question wrong on her exam. Needless to say this story is outrageous. The police always tell us there here for our protection and help, but this kind of thing shows as far as they're concerned, everybody is a criminal and everybody deserves to be treated that way. This cop deserves punishment, but I'm guessing nothing will come of it. And of course cops will continue to do these things because they know with the blue wall in place, nobody will ever call them on it. The ONLY time a police officer gets disciplined for not doing their job properly is when there is enough public outcry that they have no choice. There may be some here, but I'm guessing the level of outcry in this case will be nowhere near enough to actually force them to do anything. But I may be wrong, only time will tell. I really wish the story contained the officer's name... [UPDATE] Well there's a follow up story indicating that the police report is different than what the couple said, but being I had a cop flat out lie to me then all but admit he was lying 5 seconds later, I'm not exactly willing to fully believe the police's version (read that story here). However, the police report STILL included the following: The police report of the circumstances indicates Preston told the couple she would arrest them for trespassing -- on a public street lined with public housing units. So, the report does admit that the officer threatened to arrest the couple for being somewhere they were fully allowed to be by law. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a cop would threaten to arrest someone for a crime that their own police report states wasn't valid. It doesn't say they were in a no parking zone or a construction zone. So yeah, the officer threatened to arrest the couple for doing something 100% legal, then proceeded to do so because (by their report) the person told them they didn't want to deal with the officer... Essentially what it boils down to is even if the police report is fully accurate (which I personally don't believe), the cop was still out of line...
Welp, it's starting yet again... Strikes could be just around the corner and it's guaranteed if they do not get a pay increase...
I don't even remember how many years its been since I've gotten a pay increase... Why should I, a citizen, feel sympathy??? I hate unions...
Tony Valdez's statement that YOU killed people to get this country is not fully correct.
You took this country. You killed people in order to take this country for yourselves. First off, I thought Tony Valdez was an American citizen. Once again, evidence that most of these immigrants don't want to become Americans... Even ones who have become Americans still don't consider themselves to be American. Besides the fact, we didn't steal the land, we paid for it, along with excepting any private debt enclosed with that land. We also are regularly giving millions to Mexico on a yearly basis today, so in a sense we're still paying for it. Not to mention we're giving billions to Mexican illegals yearly... Oh, and for the record, Mexico is fully conqured land... So Mexicans killed people in order to take their country too... Oh, and he says something about the Mormon Battalion monument & how the Mormon Battalion killed thousands of Mexicans. However, if you read the history of the Mormon Battalion you would clearly see they came close to fighting once, however the Mexican soilders retreated. In other words, they never killed a single Mexican soilder... Or in other words Tony's statement was not the least bit historically accurate...
In the past I've written a couple of articles [1,2] stating that Michelle Malkin was not very intellegent. As it turns out, she does have the right idea *most* of the times, but she is a little too much on the radical side for me to fully support her. I really don't precieve things politically. I alway suported conservatives because their core values appear the most logical and realistic to myself. In recent history, my views of the republican party have changed a bit. I'm still republican but at the same time more independant...
I do fully support the Iraq war (I fully agree with the 1998 version of John Kerry's view on Iraq, and would have fully supported Clinton (who I didn't like) had he done what John Kerry said should be done back then). The moment Bush said Iraq I said "let's do it" before he ever got to the WMD's part. I believe it needed to be done. Back to Michelle, her views on immigration are completely correct. I fully support her in this area. I also heard word in her book she listed the email of people who openly flaimed her (using racial type terms and stuff), and I think she did the right thing. You will notice my prevous statements about her were based soley on her views, although they were harsh. The use of racial overtones or threats are fully innaproprate. I still feel my problems with the two statements I blogged about were accurate. She apparently does not completely lack intellegence, but a couple of her views do almost overshadow that. I still think this statement lacked a fully intellegent argument, and this statement was rather hippocritical.
There were some interesting things to note about Monday's protest, but all in all the protest did much more harm than good for their goal...
For starters, one of the biggest noticeable effects here in California was that the freeways had almost NO traffic all day long. Being traffic is one of the most stressful daily occurrences here in southern California, this pretty much shows that all the freeway clogging would go away if the illegals went away. Further, there were no waits in emergency rooms. People who did go to emergency rooms found no lines and no waits, again lending to the idea that things would be better off without illegals. Were there no emergencies? No, what really happened was the illegals simply didn't go in and occupy the emergency rooms to get a mild cough treated... And what about the economic impact? Well, initial results indicated that the areas most effected by the boycotts were in fact the very neighborhoods where the majority of the protesters live. So in a sense the people most economically harmed by the protesters was the protesters. The news repeatedly showed business after business closed. But what they failed to acknowledge was that these were select areas. On a local news broadcast, someone made the argument that an IHOP was closed, as well as a Kinko's. Sure, but 99% of the IHOPs & Kinko's were in fact still open. The ones in the area that I lived were open... It was only a select few that closed, and again they were predominately in Latino based neighborhoods. One person made the argument that the Nasdaq and so forth were down as a result of the protest. However, that would almost be like arguing the only reason it's raining today in Southern California is because of the protests. Stocks go up and down on a daily basis, there is zero evidence to support the idea that had there been no boycott, stock would have gone up. All & all, the protest solidified many of the arguments that the anti-illegal crowed has been making from the beginning: Things in this country would be a whole lot better over all if we enforced immigration laws. That's not to say there wouldn't be any issues at all, but as a whole the gain would greatly outweighed the loss...
About a month ago I installed the MyPublisher plug-in for iPhoto, and being one of the first 5000 people to do so I recieved a coupon code for a free photo book (shipping not included).
So today I went though and placed an order, using my coupon code. Everything seemed to go though well, I got slighly over the 20 pages included in the value so I ended up paying just under $10 for everything... Ironically enough, a short time later I recieved an email incidating the order had been canceld due to "Technical Difficulties"!!! So I think "fine, I'll just re-order". One small problem however: MY COUPON CODE IS NO LONGER VALID!!! So in other words, it appears MyPublisher never had any intention of honering the coupon, as they found a sure-fire way to make sure they wouldn't have to... Oh, and for the record, I had a friend that had their own coupon code, and she indicated to me (ironically enough) the EXACT SAME THING happened to her order!!! So this was NOT an isolated incident... I sent them an email asking if I'm now basically screwed due to a mysterious problem on their end. I will update here once I get a reply. I may just end up with a new entry to the Numskull award... [UPDATE] Well, perhaps they didn't fully wheesle out of it, I got a reply stating they would give me a credit to place another order. I need to respond to them to give them more info, so I'll see what happens... I still think the problem itself was a little odd... |
